Description

FD RESPONDED FOR THE VEHICLE INTO A BUILDING WITH NO INJURIES. 4522 ARRIVED TO FIND A VEHICLE 2/3 OF THE WAY INTO THE BUILDING WITH NO ONE INJURED. 4C45 RESPONDED AT THAT TIME DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF THE VEHICLE REPORTED INTO THE BUILDING.  4522 REQUESTED THE NOTIFY OF THE FIRE MARSHAL AND AN AMBULANCE TO BE STARTED.  UPON ARRIVAL OF 4C45 IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS TRAPPED IN HIS VEHICLE BY THE DEBRIS OF THE BUILDING.  4C45 ESTABLISHED COMMAND REQUESTED 4530 AND 4518 TO THE SCENE DUE TO THE MALE BEING TRAPPED.  THE GAS AND ELECTRIC WERE SECURED TO THE AFFECTED APARTMENT AND ADJACENT APT'S ALONG WITH THE FLOOR ABOVE APTS, THIS WAS COMPLETED BY THE BUILDING MANAGER ALONG WITH THE FD.  DURING THE ASSESSMENT OF THE SITUATION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURE WAS IN QUESTION DUE TO A "BOWED" HEADER FOR THE APT DOOR AND THE DAMAGE TO A POSSIBLE LOAD BEARING WALL IN THE INTERIOR OF THE APT.  AT THAT TIME COMMAND REQUESTED A SPECIAL OPERATION LEVEL 1 FOR STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE TEAM.  UPON ARRIVAL OF THE REMAINDER OF THE GATES EQUIPMENT LT MINNS WAS ASSIGNED AS THE TECHNICAL RESCUE OFFICER (TRO) AND LT LIST WAS ASSIGNED AS SAFETY.  GATES CREW ON SCENE STARTED TO SHORE THE EXTERNAL WALL TO CREATE A SAFE REMOVAL AREA FOR THE OCCUPANT OF THE VEHICLE.  ONCE THE ARRIVAL OF THE SPECIAL OPERATIONS EQUIPMENT AND PERSONNEL LT MINNS WAS TRANSITIONED TO OPERATIONS, CAR701 WAS ASSIGNED AS THE TRO, LT LIST WAS TRANSITIONED TO DIV1 AND 4C95-1 WAS ASSIGNED TO SAFETY.  ONE 1-3/4" ATTACK LINE WAS IN PLACE FOR PROTECTION.  CREWS CONDUCTED SEARCHES TO REMOVE ANY OCCUPANTS IN ADJACENT APARTMENTS ALONG WITH APARTMENTS ON THE FLOOR ABOVE.  CREWS COMPLETED A TEMPORARY SHORE AND GAINED ACCESS TO THE OCCUPANT
OF THE VEHICLE BY BREACHING A DAMAGED INTERIOR WALL.  THE OCCUPANT WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS EVALUATED BY GATES AMBULANCE.  FD REMAINED ON SCENE DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE TRUCK FROM THE BUILDING TO ENSURE STRUCTURAL STABILITY.  ONCE ALL PRIORITY HAZARDS HAD BEEN MITIGATED, THE LEVEL 1 SPECIAL OPS AND COMMAND WAS TERMINATED.  COMPANIES RETURNED TO SERVICE ONCE READY.

Comments

Crews used rescue 42 jacks from 4518 to shore the exterior wall (at the X).  Then crews entered the apartment thru the windows (at the green arrow) and breached the damaged wall (at the red arrow) to gain access to the driver of the vehicle.  Crews were able to assist the driver out of the vehicle and remove him from the apartment thru the apartment door then down the hallway to the exterior.
