FD RESPONDED FOR A REPORT OF A BUSINESS ON FIRE AT 2346 LYELL AVENUE, MAC'S PIZZA & GRILL.  WHILE EN ROUTE FD WAS ADVISED THAT THE BUSINESS OWNER WAS ON SCENE AND REPORTED A FIRE IN THE BUSINESS AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE BUILDING.  4522 ARRIVED AND REPORTED SMOKE SHOWING FROM THE CHARLIE SIDE AND WAS STRETCHING AN 1 3/4" ATTACK LINE THROUGH THE ALPHA SIDE.  4C45 ARRIVED AND DECLARED A WORKING FIRE AND ASSUMED COMMAND.  COMMAND ASSIGNED THE OFFICER OF 4522 (4C55) TO DIV 1.  CREW OF 4562 ESTABLISHED A WATER SUPPLY TO 4522 BY HAND JACKING A SUPPLY HOSE TO A HYDRANT AT LYELL AVE NEXT TO THE VERIZON STORE.  ENGINE 4562 ALSO LAID AWAY A SUPPLY HOSE TO THE HYDRANT TO THE REAR OF THE RITE AID ON SPENCERPORT RD AS A SECOND WATER SUPPLY.  QUINT 4530 WAS INSTRUCTED TO REPORT TO THE "C" SIDE AND SET UP FOR TRUCK WORK.  4530 REPORTED THAT THEY HAD FIRE FROM THE ROOF ON THE "C" SIDE.  RRFD ENGINE 254 & SQUAD 256 WERE ASSIGNED TO MEET DIV 1 AND ASSIST WITH THEIR PROGRESS.  CREW OF 4562 COMPLETED A QUICK PRIMARY SEARCH OF MAC'S PIZZERIA W/ NEGATIVE RESULTS AND THEN WORKED WITH 254.  254 TRANSMITTED THEY WOULD BE FORCING ENTRY INTO THE CHILDRENS PALACE DAY CARE AND STRETCHING A BACK UP 1 3/4" ATTACK LINE FROM THE "A" SIDE INTO THE DAY CARE.  THE CREW OF 4522 WITH DIV 1 STRETCHED THRU THE PIZZERIA WITHOUT FINDING FIRE.  THE CREW OF 4522 FORCED DOORS ON THE "C" SIDE UNTIL THEY FOUND A DOOR THAT ACCESSED THE DAY CARE. THEY WERE MET WITH HEAT AND SMOKE.  CREW OF 4522 STRETCHED ONE 1 3/4" ATTACK LINE FROM 4530 INTO THE DAY CARE FROM THE "C" SIDE.  THE DRIVER OF 4530 PULLED A BACK UP 1 3/4" ATTACK LINE TO THE ENTRY DOOR TO THE REAR THAT DID NOT GO INTO OPERATION.  RFD ENGINE 5 RESPONDED AS THE WORKING FIRE UNIT.  RESCUE 4518 ARRIVED AND WAS ASSIGNED AS THE RIC.  COMMAND REQUESTED A TRUCK COMPANY FROM RFD.  B2 MADE THE REQUEST THRU HIS DISPATCHER AND COMMAND NOTIFIED GATES DISPATCH OF THIS.  COMMAND ALSO REQUESTED AN ADDITIONAL ENGINE.  SPENCERPORT 2914 WAS ASSIGNED AS THE ADDITIONAL ENGINE FROM THE FILL IN TO STATION 2.  ENGINE 5 WAS INSTRUCTED TO REPORT TO THE "C" SIDE AND ESTABLISH A WATER SUPPLY TO 4530.  ENGINE 5 LAID SUPPLY HOSE FROM 4530 TO THE CORNER OF LYELL & ROSSMORE ST.  THE CREW OF 4530 WENT TO THE ROOF ON THE "C" SIDE AND COMPLETED VERTICAL VENTILATION.  TRUCK 5 WAS THE ADDITIONAL TRUCK COMPANY, THEY WERE INSTRUCTED TO REPORT TO THE "A-B" SIDE OF THE BUILDING, LADDER THE BUILDING AND START VERTICAL VENTILATION OVER THE "B" EXPOSURES.  DIV 1 REPORTED AT 23:14 THEY HAD WATER ON THE FIRE (CEILING VOID IN DAY CARE).  B2 AND 4530 REPORTED FIRE SHOWING FROM ROOF ON "C" SIDE. COMMAND REQUESTED AN ADDITIONAL ENGINE FOR MANPOWER.  4C25 ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, BRIEFED BY 4C45.  COMMAND TRANSFERRED FROM 4C45 TO 4C25.  4C45 ASSIGNED TO OPERATIONS AND B2 WAS ASSIGNED TO "C" DIV. QUINT 250 WAS POSITIONED IN FRONT OF THE "D" EXPOSURES ON THE "A" SIDE.  4532 WAS ORDERED BY COMMAND TO FIND ANOTHER WATER SOURCE AND LAID SUPPLY HOSE TO A HYDRANT AT LYELL & MATILDA ST TO SUPPLY 250.  THE FIRE WAS KNOCKED DOWN WITH SOME EXTENSION OF FIRE THROUGH THE CEILING SPACE INTO THE VACANT "B" EXPOSURE (2350 LYELL AVE).  FIRE WAS KNOCKED DOWN IN EXPOSURE "B" BY CREW OF 2914 WITH A 3RD 1- 3/4" ATTACK LINE FROM 4522.  RG&E SECURED THE GAS AND ELECTRIC TO THE ENTIRE BUILDING.  FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED IN THE TWO OCCUPANCIES.  THE BUSINESSES IN 2338-B, 2340, 2344, 2346, 2352, AND 2354 LYELL AVENUE WERE CHECKED FOR FIRE EXTENSION (NONE FOUND), BUT DID SUFFER SMOKE DAMAGE.  REMAINING UNITS (4512, 4332, 270, AND 424) WERE USED AS RELIEF'S AND TO ASSIST WITH VENTILATION, SALVAGE AND OVERHAUL, AND PICK-UP.  ON SCENE CREWS CONDUCTED VENTILATION AND AIR MONITORING UNTIL CO LEVELS MET SAFE LEVELS. CAUSE & ORIGIN INVESTIGATION BY MCFB (WILLIAMS AND SANTILLO). CREWS CONDUCTED OVERHAUL AND EXTINGUISHED HOT SPOTS.  EMERGENCY ENCLOSURES WAS CONTACTED AND ARRIVED ON SCENE TO RESECURE THE BUILDING.  KEYS FOR THE BUILDING WERE GIVEN TO GPD OFFICER DESPARD TO BE LEFT AT FM TYTLER'S OFFICE ON THE AUTHORITY OF 4C45.  REMAINDER OF THE UNITS PICKED UP AND RETURNED TO SERVICE.

 

E5 CAPT. JOERGER WAS INJURED DURING OPERATIONS. HE WAS TREATED ON SCENE AND TRANSPORTED TO STRONG HOSPITAL BY GVAS.
